Balea Lake

We have in our country such beautiful places, but instead of visiting them, we are running away visiting foreign countries. Why that? First of all, because of the roads. It’s kind of difficult to make a proper tour in Romania, to take the highway (because we have only half of one) and go visiting our really enjoyable country.

Few years ago, on a hot Saturday afternoon, we took our car and went for a ride. Bogdan never visited Curtea de Arges, so we headed there, thinking that we’ll refresh a little bit, take some pictures of the beautiful monastery and come back.

Than, he said he never saw Vidraru Dam, so we drove a little bit more to show it to him and see the lake. We parked the car, took some more pictures (what else?), but we didn’t find a place to have a coffee or a snack (in such a gorgeous environement!). Bogdan loves to drive, and the Transfagarasan drive was open, is a difficult road crossing Carpathian Mountains, sometimes is closed even in the summer because of the snowfalls.

On our way up, in Fagaras Mountains, there is a glacier lake name Balea, at 2,034 m altitude. The area is a scientific reservation, but on the lake is a beautiful chalet having the same name, with best grilled trout I ever ate. We were hungry, the road was open, so we took our chance!

We went up, to Balea Lake.

Well... we ate really well, but we had to cross the mountains and spent the night in Sibiu, because we didn’t have reservations for the night. About Sibiu, city who was the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2007, some other time. Till then, have a look to Balea and Vidraru Lakes!

New Words in Town

Radu barely talks, and his vocabulary is quite limited, but yesterday, coming back home from Hornbach, the DIY supermarket, he asked:
- Where are we going now?
- Home, I answered.
- Perfect! he said.

The Most Beatiful Women

Lately, I don't see much of myself when I look in the mirror. I'm always in hurry, thinking of things to be done, putting on some lipstick and automatically some make up all over my face.
Most of the time I don't even really see myself at all.
Permanently on the fast track, I'm trying to look at my best for myself and for others.
And I know I don't always succeed.

But you know what?
When the kids are holding my hands, when Bogdan is looking at me, when they say they love me, I feel I'm the most beautiful women on earth.

"You Want to Be a Man"

I have to write this down to not forget.

Radu and Mara came from the kindergarden very hungry, the dinner was not ready and their grandmother prepared them some french fries on the spot.

When food arrived, Radu started to eat with both hands, while Mara sat and waited the food to cool down a little bit.

She was watching Radu eating very fast, with ketchup on his little hands and mouth, and said:

- Radu, you want to grow up as a man, well... I think you'll grow up as a pig!

King at my Castle

Madrid - Mercado de San Miguel

One of the best places we've been in Madrid is Mercado de San Miguel, really a magical and fantastic place, full of life and fun and everythting.

We are huge gourmet type, trying everything everywhere we go, typical or strange food, local flavors, unusual tastes

We reached here by accident, on our way to Puerta del Sol, we saw the beautiful building from 1915, an ancient market very well preserved. I love markets, for the usual explosion of color and local noise, but Mercado de San Miguel is different, is a lifestyle place, full of people of all ages, all incomes and all colors, but having one thing in common: enjoying life and good food.

Is a place to socialize, to bring good friends, to have a glass of good wine and whatever your appetite is, you can fulfill it by going there.
